Punta del Este
Punta del Este is a peninsular city in the far southern Uruguay. It is
located on a narrow strip of land dividing the waters of the Rio de la
Plata and the Atlantic Ocean.
Has a permanent population of 17,816 inhabitants according to the 2004
census. Its beaches are divided into Mansa and Brava. It is located southeast of the department of Maldonado and 7 km from
its capital city (Maldonado), and is virtually connected to that city.
To the northeast extends widely embracing other towns like La Barra
and Jose Ignacio, and, to the southeast includes Punta Ballena,
Solanas and Portezuelo (this towns that have grown considerably in
recent years), and today they are associated the image of Punta del
Este.
Counting the adjacent resorts (El Tesoro, Balneario Buenos Aires,
Punta Ballena, La Barra, El Chorro, Manantiales, Faro Jose Ignacio,
Ocean Park, Sauce de Portezuelo, Chihuahua, Las Cumbres and Arenas de
Jose Ignacio) the population was 20,579 in habitants.
